Comedy Royals Launches tonight in PDC!
Ready to get your comedy fix on in Playa Del Carmen Mexico? Fear not! A new comedy showcase is launching tonight in PDC brought to you by none other than the Founder of Mexpats, Rodrigo Sagastegui. We caught up with Rodrigo for a quick interview to learn more!

How did you get started in comedy?
I decided to jump on the stage of an open mic in Playa a year ago. Adam Palmeter was the person who started a previous Comedy show here called “Playa del Comedy” and he was happy to let new people participate. There were over a 100 people in the crowd at that show and it was an incredible experience I’ll never forget.
Who are some of your comedy heroes?
RS: Several, mainly mexican comedians like Franco Escamilla, Ricardo O´farril. I also like George Carlin a lot, Kevin Heart of course and Gabriel Iglesias is also one of my favs.
What do you think makes a good comedian?
RS: Someone that can tell honest and uncomfortable truths without being insulting; someone that can create awareness through a good joke and maybe someone that doesn’t rely only on negative facts but also in the good things of life to make people laugh. I think a good comedian can make a person laugh at themselves even if what they laugh about can make them uncomfortable sometimes.
What was the inspiration behind the launch of the new show we’re welcoming to Playa tonight, Comedy Royals?
RS: After Adam started Playa del comedy, I saw a new community forming in Playa - not only in our audience but also in the group of comedians who were performing regularly in Playa. I believed that this was no longer just ‘show business’, but rather a meaningful opportunity for our community to participate and interact with each other, and to get to know each other without labels - to laugh, bond, and connect. When Adam left Playa, I saw immense value in continuing his efforts to build something that would add a lot of joy to our community here in PDC. That’'s what lead me to create the Comedy Royals show debuting now in Playa.
