Curious About Breathwork? Join This Ceremony Thursday July 29th in Playa Del Carmen on Adventurely
As Telepopmusic once famously sang- “just breathe” …. but could breathing really be the key to this thing called life? Yes we breathe daily as a matter of function, but could starting a breathwork practice be a key way to improve energy, focus, and creativity; reduce stress; and lessen the impact of a host of issues like depression, anxiety, anger, and grief?
Jason Holland, the founder of Samadhi Breath believes so, and has blossomed his life mission toward being an advocate and instructor for breathwork experiences that he now facilitiates in-person in Mexico.
Jason Holland, The Heart Centered Creator.
Jason’s next breathwork event is a Shamanic Healing Breathwork Ceremony taking place tomorrow, Thursday July 29th, 2021 in Playa Del Carmen Mexico.
We caught up with Jason for a deeper dive into his mission and purpose with Breathwork, and how he arrived there
Adventurely: What lead you to try breathwork?
Jason: “My breathwork journey began when I started my soul awakening journey, before I came to Mexico, four years ago. I had some healing to do when I came to Mexico. I started with meditation and was soul searching. I found my heart here. Since then, I've been to five Ayuahsca ceremonies. A friend of mine, Jirka, now another breathwork instructor here in Playa del Carmen, introduced me to the breathwork medicine of Mariposa at Respira Tu Amor.
I went to one of her breathwork ceremonies at Playa Yoga Tribe here on Playa del Carmen and just had a profound experience—and kept going back. And then, I went to a three-day workshop that she held. It was a transformative experience. Afterward, I felt the call to be in service through breathwork. And during the COVID lockdown, I decided to get certified in SOMA breath.
I think the thing that's called me to breathwork is the idea that it's not just esoteric; it's also science-based. This idea is that you are your own medicine, you're your shaman and your pharmacy, all through deep, conscious breathing. You can activate the vagus nerve and the parasympathetic nervous system and trigger stem cells to heal; you can trigger healing chemicals like serotonin and melatonin from an even DMT from the pineal gland to heal physical, emotional, and emotional, spiritual healing within the body.”
Adventurely: How would you describe the wellness community in Playa del Carmen for people seeking a destination with an interest in wellness?
Jason: “We have a very vibrant, active, and well-established wellness community here in Playa del Carmen.
Unfortunately, because of the COVID pandemic, yoga studios, much like gyms, probably were among the many hardest-hit industries here because of COVID restrictions. There's a lot of regulations, of course, about larger groups of people congregating. I've seen a lot of people here get very creative. We're lucky here because we have many outdoor, open-air spaces, such as the beach.
Because of the COVID pandemic, many people have had to go inward, do a lot of healing and soul searching, and get creative. New facilitators, like myself, studied a new medicine. And many new healing modalities have started to emerge here in Playa. In addition, traditional and well-established yoga teachers, massage therapists, and sound healers here in Playa have had to get creative.
I think our community of facilitators has evolved and expanded, and a certain amount of that has come out of creative necessity.
The Riviera Maya is a place that attracts people from all over the world. And because of that, we have a culturally diverse community. It's a beautifully vibrant community.
I think here on the Yucatan peninsula; we have a rich and ancient Mayan history and heritage. And this is a place a unique place where you can come and heal. You can feel the energy in the earth.
I've seen many people that I know and love here bloom and blossom and grow over the last year and a half since the beginning of COVID. Playa del Carmen is a place to do come and do the inner work, to heal and transform. I've watched many people here I care deeply for grow and evolve this past year—that's part of what makes this wellness community so special—the people and the environment support it.”
Adventurely: What's your vision for over the next year with your Breath Work Practice?
Jason: “My goal in Playa the next year is twofold. I want to continue to grow as a breathwork facilitator. There are at least three of us, if not more, breathwork facilitators, here in Playa. To my knowledge, there are at least three or four of us certified in SOMA Breath alone.
I want to continue supporting and collaborating, supporting each other, sharing this medicine, and continuing to hold space for the people who come to receive it. All of us have our unique style, even though we are all certified in the same technique.
My second goal here is through the breathwork, as with the rest of the Heart-Centered Creator project, is to continue contributing and giving back to my community here in Playa del Carmen. I to continue supporting The KKIS Project's high school and college scholarship program.
KKIS helps keep kids in school by providing scholarships. School here in Mexico is compulsory, but after ninth grade, students and their families have to pay to complete high school, and that has to include all of the costs (uniform, books, supplies, transportation, everything). These scholarships go a long way in helping to help these kids complete their education.
KISS also provides the students with community and resources for these students opportunities they might not otherwise have access to.
Through the breathwork and creative inspiration and sharing my 23+ years of professional expertise in web design and digital marketing, my goal has always been to inspire other people to realize their full creative potential.
My philosophy is this: you are your own medicine; you create your reality, so you might as well create and live a life you love. Living in Playa del Carmen has taught me that I am not a victim of my circumstances or life experiences.
I made a conscious choice a long time ago to face my truth and slowly heal, "dia a dia." My intention has always been to help others realize their full creative potential; breathwork just happens to be a natural extension of that philosophy.”
