4 Ways your Remote Team can Honor Juneteenth

Happy Juneteenth!

Celebrated today, June 19th in the U.S., Juneteenth is a holiday that celebrates and honors the true ending of slavery in the U.S - June 19th, 1865.

While Juneteenth has been observed for decades by many in the Black American community, Juneteenth only recently became an official federal U.S. holiday signed into law by President Joe Biden in 2021.

This year, at least 28 states and the District of Columbia will legally recognize Juneteenth as a public holiday – meaning state government offices are closed and state workers have a paid day off.

But for teams in the private sector, particularly ones that are remote, how can Juneteenth best be honored beyond a day off from work and symbolic gestures?

Here are four great suggestions!

1 . Invite your remote team members to participate in a Juneteenth remote cook-off and post photos and/or videos the next day: from healthy green veggie dishes to decadent cakes, there’s a world of delicious, historic soul food meals that you and your team members can have fun potentially making in a remote cook off.
