Meet the Founder Bringing Digital Nomads to Italy with Remoteworktuscany.com

When most people hear the word “Tuscany” it often evokes dreamy thoughts of rolling green hills, soaring breathtaking landscapes, wine, and dazzling art history. While Tuscany has long been a favorite destination for travelers from around the world, it hasn’t necessarily been a known community base for digital nomads - until now.

Giacomo Bonamico, Founder of Remoteworktuscany.com

Meet remoteworktuscany.com: a newly launched startup offering month long remote work group retreats in Tuscany Italy, kicking off with their first one from May 22, 2022 - June 19th, 2022: https://remoteworktuscany.com/retreat/

The Founder, Giacomo Bonamico, is a native of Lucca Tuscany and has been living/working remotely in nomad hotspot Playa Del Carmen Mexico for a number of years. He’s throwing a launch party at the IT hotel in Playa Del Carmen Mexico this week Thursday January 20th where our team currently is based, and we had a chance to catch up with him and learn his story!

Adventurely: Lets learn a little bit about you - what was life like in Lucca Tuscany growing up, how has it changed?

Giacomo: Lucca has been and still is a nice place to live. It’s the right size, where you can easily move around with just a bike, you have all the services every other city can offer and on top of that you have that sense of community typical of Italian small towns, where everybody knows each other and makes you feel at home.

Adventurely: What inspired you to  become a digital nomad, and why did you choose mexico as your nomad/expat base?

Giacomo: I’ve been an expat before being a nomad. I moved to Mexico to start over after a very stressful moment and I fell in love with it. The people, the food, the beaches, everything  here resonated a lot with me since day one.

Working with people in the expat community brought me to discover the movement of digital nomads and inspired me to be part of it. The people following this lifestyle are the kind of people I like and I share value with. There is something special in this unsettled global community that I’m sure will make a big change in the world future for the best.

Adventurely: How did you create the idea for Remote work Tuscany

Giacomo: They Idea was very basic, honestly. I found myself loving time back in Tuscany, enjoying the food, the places I visit and the lifestyle I can have there and so I realized - why don’t share this good experience with the people I know and the nomad community in general?
So I started to plan for it and some months later here we are ready to help nomads and remote workers discover and enjoy Tuscany.

Adventurely: Tell us about the actual retreat program - when are the dates, and what does the itinerary look like

Giacomo: This 1st year we are proposing a 1 month retreat in Lucca Tuscany starting 22nd of May. Late spring/early summer is the perfect time to enjoy Tuscany at its best: nature blooms, days are long, the weather is perfect with not too hot days and cool evenings.

The idea behind the retreat is to show how easy and beautiful is living in Tuscany and especially in Lucca together with a group of people aligned with your lifestyle. We will provide accommodation, co-working and helps with transportation and basic needs you have when you arrive in a new place (Mobile Sims, informations and deal with the best places to eat, drink etc..) plus a program of activities to make this experience unforgettable including tours, community meals and classes to improve professional and personal life. All is managed with local people to make you live as much as possible as a local, including learning how to properly use your hands while speaking.

Adventurely: What do you think people would be surprised to learn about Tuscany?

Giacomo: Tuscany is a lot more than what people often think. There’s a large variety of activities and experiences you can do that are outside of what most people expect. For sure glasses of red wine are going to be part of the experience, but a lot of great, mostly unknown food, too. I hope people will love the possibility to live a cozy city where everything you need is just a step away.

Adventurely: What advice do you have for people becoming digital nomads? Your top 3 pieces of advice.

Giacomo: Being a nomad can be struggling, let’s be honest about it, it’s not just bringing your laptop on a beach and drinking Margaritas. But the effort is worth.

My first suggestion is be patient, you will face a lot of new problems and not going crazy at every challenging moment is essential for you to enjoy the process. Stay calm and keep traveling.

Create connections through sharing. We are all on a different path but the nomads are a real Community, be part of it and share your experiences, talent and skills with others, you’ll be rewarded in a way or another and it helps a lot in creating new friendships that can last a lifetime.

Finally, be curious If you decide to live in different countries, taste the food, learn the language, try to understand the culture. Learning all this different way of living It’s most fun and quicker way for personal growth.
